In my day-to-day dealings with independent professionals in particular, I often hear them say that even if they have a website, it doesn't bring them any business and it's just there as a means to direct potential clients if they should ever ask for a web site address.

These sites are what I call "expensive brochures," because if all they do is display static information that never changes and worst, information that cannot be found by people searching for what you have to offer. The only benefit of your website therefore over a is enabpeople like to browse at their own leisure.

But in all fairness, I can't blame these professionals for not taking their business online much further than a website because many are just plain tired of spending excessive amounts of time and money on websites that don't sell, expensive webmasters who know little or nothing about online marketing and, engaging in expensive search engine optimization strategies that do little to increase their traffic or make them any sales.

So after they've spent a few thousand dollars building the site, they then run out of their marketing budget and the site remains stagnant.

So, if this is you … what can be done about it?

At the very least, add a blog to your existing site

A blog can help you drive more traffic to your existing site, make you more sales and get you more clients and, by giving people information they can use, you build your credibility, earn trust with your prospects and promote your business, all at the same time. Once you've built this trust and people want specific "how to" information in your particular field, they are more likely to approach you than they are their competitor.

And, don't worry about giving away information. The more you give people the more they think you know.

If you feel out of your depth and want to know more about how a blog could help you get more clients, I invite you to check out the benefits of joining The Blog Net Reporter members only website.
